Post Incident Debriefing is a practical leadership course designed to equip leaders in private medical practice with the knowledge, confidence and judgement to respond effectively following a workplace incident.

This course explore the fundamentals of debriefing and the important role leaders play in supporting individuals and teams after a challenging, distressing or unexpected event. Participants learn the differences between group and individual debriefing, how to provide an appropriate first response, and how to determine which debriefing approach is most suitable for the circumstances.

Leaders are also encouraged to recognise the limits of their role, including when additional professional or specialist support may be required. The course considers key legal and best-practice obligations, helping leaders balance employee wellbeing, confidentiality, organisational responsibilities and appropriate escalation.

Practical guidance on documentation is also provided, including what should be recorded, how information should be managed and the importance of maintaining clear, objective and appropriate records.

By the end of the course, leaders will have structure and considered approach to post-incident debriefing, enabling them to respond with confidence, support their people appropriately and contribute to a safer and more supportive workplace.
